Snark Weighs In

Well, That Was Fast

posted Thursday, 15 May 2008
SOW confirms that the "vacationing" Beth Ehlers (ex-Harley, GL) is joining All My Children.  Rumors had been flying all week that she was joining AMC as the new Liza Colby, but SOW says that's not the character she'll be playing.

According to SOW, I think, BE was taking a month off to weigh her options. Either that month flew by REALLY fast, or she was heading to AMC anyway.

Do you think Beth didn't like the production changes? Please, please GL, hire James Reilly or Hogan Sheffer, even Meagan McTavish. do something before its too late.

the other jennifer,

Most likely reason why Ricky Paull Goldin and, with the news just breaking, Beth Ehlers leaving "Guiding Light" has to do with an uncertain future for that show. For the actors. For their families (well, Ehlers is the one with a spouse and kid; but Ricky counts, too.) "Uncertain" is a polite word. "Sinking ship" are the words a number of folks are more apt to apply.

Oh, I think it's quite something for Ehlers, who has never before been with more than one soap (she has played Harley on "GL" from 1987-93 and 1997-present), to abdicate the "Light" in favor of "All My Children." With "AMC," at least ABC will back it with more support…giving it some sort of future…than CBS and Proctor & Gamble have with the crippling "GL."

For the five-time Emmy-nominated Ehlers, I don't believe she'll play Liza Colby; I imagine either Hayley Santos or Julie Chandler will become the reactivated character. The most artistic (how do you like that word?) move for "AMC" would be to create a new character for her that is tightly bound to others. Ah, but no matter, I do hope it is a prominent leading role for Ehlers.

I'm so happy another soap snapped up Ehlers. You can bet I'll be watching.

Not for nothin', but RPG and Beth Ehlers ain't exactly George reinholt and Jacquie Courtney... and THAT didn't even work out on OLTL.
