Is Ehlers Out?

posted Thursday, 8 May 2008

From Lynn Leahey in Soap Opera Digest's newsletter:

though talks hadn't ended between GL's Beth Ehlers (Harley) and her show as I write this, she is taking a month off and and is exploring her other options. Ehlers is an amazing actress and I can't imagine GL without her — but wherever she lands will be one lucky place.

Either CBS/PGP needs to fire Wheeler/Kreizman NOW, or just f$#king SHOOT GL AND PUT IT OUT OF ITS MISERY.

Well turn off the light. If she's out it's over.

I would love for Beth Ehlers to get the hell out of daytime because she's landed a lead role in prime-time and/or film. That's what I would really like to see happen for her. She's an honest performer—and an award-caliber pro (how loathsome this year's useless best-actress race, which doesn't include Ehlers because she wasn't on the ballot!)—whose style has evolved.

If Ehlers remains in daytime, only "All My Children"—if it were to restore its once classy state with overall quality (like with what has happened with "One Life to Live")—would fit with her style. Other shows—like the Bill Bell creations—I don't believe would fit her, in part because of who else is with those shows (and a probable lack of chemistry with them). The only way I'd want Ehlers to stick with "Guiding Light" is if a miracle were to happen with its dangerously low Nielsen ratings—and "GL" were to, once again, became dignified.

All the best to actress Beth Ehlers, and to her family as well, regardless what decision she makes.

I had a feeling when RPG left that BE was unsure (maybe even felt a little defeated) when it came to her future with the show. So sad really, and Beverlee McKinsey's death only makes the whole sad state of GL even sadder, that this once great show is a first year film student's shadow of its former self. Just for grits and schmiggles, put all the men in suits, and toss big ol' church lady hats on the women's heads, and cram the whole damn cast into the country club... see if we can get even a *spark*. Maybe instead of always looking forward, trying to reinvent the wheel, maybe Wheeler needs to take a moment to look BACK. Things don't HAPPEN on GL anymore, it's just a wash of boring little incidents.

Um sounds kind of fishy to me in light of Martha Byrne and Ricky Paul Goldin leaving and that new GL cinematography that looks like a cheap porno film. Ellen Wheeler spun it as new and creative when it was really a creative way to get rid of the union help. I think P& G in other words is saying "BE take a big pay cut or you are toast!"

Well I heard over at Soap Central GL has been renewed through the end of 2009...but now it's starting to remind me of the final months of AW when only Cass, Felicia, Vicky, Jake, and Marley were on and everyone else was a bunch of nobodies. The only days of GL I ever watch anymore is whenever Reva is on, and those are becoming fewer and more far apart...imagine that...
